Our Breeding Program

At Painted Mountain our goal is to breed top quality, sound Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs (Swissys) with excellent temperaments for the show ring and for loving companions. All of our Swissys are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and have achieved or are working towards their AKC championship in the conformation ring.  We screen all of our dogs for hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, shoulder OCD and eye disease prior to breeding.   We are always striving for longevity, health, sound temperament and structure with substance! We take special care to socialize each and every puppy and to match that puppy with the appropriate home, whether for family pet, working, obedience, or show and breeding.  Because of our love for this breed, all pet/companion puppies are sold with an AKC limited registration and the requirement that the puppy be spayed or neutered at the appropriate age.

The first 8 weeks are extremely important. Nutrition and environmental factors are just as important as genetics, so we do everything possible to ensure that our puppies are given the best possible start in these areas. Our puppies are given lots of individualized attention from the moment they are born. From the time they are a few days old, we interact with each puppy regularly and hold themPuppies close to us so they can become accustomed to human scents. Our Swissy puppies receive early Bio-Sensor neurological stimulation. These daily exercises have been shown to improve heart rate and strength, strengthen the function of the adrenal gland, increase tolerance to stress and resistance to disease.  All puppies are well socialized with adults, children of all ages, our ranch animals and other dogs. They are also exposed to all the sights and sounds of a normal household.

We do not allow visitors for the first 4 weeks of our puppies' new life as their immune system is still developing at this point and it is best not to take any risks with exposing them to disease.  We also believe it is important that our mama dogs have uninterupted bonding time with thier new babies in those first important weeks.  However once they are past this sensitive period we encourage families to visit so they have the opportunity to meet our puppies and our puppies are exposed to lots of different people.

Structural and temperament evaluations are performed between 7-8 weeks of age to ensure that a puppy’s individual traits will complement its new family.  We do not ship our puppies, rather we ask new owners to personally travel to our home to obtain their Swissy puppy.  Our puppies are released to their new homes at 9 weeks of age.
